LUXEMBOURG RANKED NINTH MOST COMPETITIVE COUNTRY
IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook Raises Luxembourg Standing
NEW YORK, New York, May 22, 2006 – Luxembourg is the ninth most competitive country in
the world and the third most competitive within the European Union, according to the World
Competitiveness Yearbook 2006, published by the International Institute for Management
Development (IMD). In its latest review of 61 industrialized and emerging economies, the
Institute raised Luxembourg's ranking from the world’s tenth most competitive country in 2005,
to the ninth such country this year.

On the 9th of May 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed a partnership of European countries, called the “European Coal and Steel Community”. The idea was that those resources, that had long been used to wage
war, would become instruments for reconciliation and peace. There were six founding members: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the
Netherlands.

NEW LUXEMBOURG - U.S. DOUBLE TAXATION TREATY TAKES EFFECT
New York, NY January 17, 2001, - The new bilateral tax treaty between Luxembourg and the U.S. took effect upon January 1, 2001, following the com-
pletion of ratification procedures in both countries. The new treaty replaces the existing treaty that dates from 1962. It generally follows the patterns of the
